Romeo y Julieta little cigars brand was created in 1875 by Inocencio Alvarez and Mannin Garcia. The brand is named after Shakespeare’s famous tragedy, Romeo and Juliet.
Between 1885 and 1900, the brand has won many awards at various tasting exhibitions (this is evidenced by gold medals on the brand logo).
However, the Romeo y Julieta little cigars brand really flourished after Jose Pepin, Rodriguez Fernandez, former head of the Cabanas factory in Havana, became the owner of the brand in 1903. Being a very active person, Rodriguez constantly traveled throughout Europe and America, promoting his brand in all kinds of ways: so, being a big fan of horse racing, he bought a thoroughbred racehorse, named it Juliet and raced around the world.
As a result, the Romeo y Julieta little cigars brand became extremely popular worldwide among wealthy customers, many of whom required personalized bows for their cigars. The brand was also known at that time among cigar figurado lovers such as perfectos and Pirámides, more than thousands of such forms are believed to have been in production.
After the death of Rodriguez in 1954 (aged 88), the revolution and the subsequent nationalization of the tobacco industry, the brand was transferred to La Romana in the Dominican Republic, where Romeo y Julieta little cigars production for the US market continues. Today – led by Altadis SA. The Cuban government nationalized the brand and still produces and distributes cigars around the world as the best-selling global brands.
In 2006, a new addition was made to Romeo y Julieta little cigars. Churchill’s short size, Robusto, was presented at the 8th annual Havana Cigar Festival (Cuba, 2006).
The machine twisting and they are made from minced tobacco. Simple bows, packing each cigarilla in cellophane, the cut-off tip of these mini-vitols – all this is characteristic not only for Romeo y Julieta little cigars of this format, but also for Puritos in general of all brands produced under the Habanos S. A. brands. These are Guantanamera, and Partagas, and Quintero, and others. Although, Partagas Puritos, in our opinion, are available without a cellophane wrapper.
Romeo y Julieta little cigars have a mild flavor and a pleasant, unobtrusive aroma. It is recommended to be stored at higher humidity.
